Civil rights

The client was wrongfully convicted of a murder in 1983. In 2004, the client was released from prison after evidence that the client was mistakenly identified was uncovered, which was withheld from the defense during the client’s trial. Peter Bowers sued the City of Philadelphia and the District Attorney’s Office for the misconduct that led to the client’s wrongful conviction. The case was settled for a substantial sum of money.

2012

Motor vehicle accident

In 2010, the victim was riding a motorcycle in Philadelphia when the defendant failed to yield to oncoming traffic and hit the victim, causing fatal injuries. Peter Bowers and Alexander Ginsburg represented the estate
of the victim and sued the defendant for negligence, wrongful death and a survival action. Despite several roadblocks in the case, including a number of hostile witnesses, Peter and Alex settled the case for the full six
figure amount of defendant’s insurance coverage.

2014

Personal injury

In 2013, the client was in her apartment when a fire started in her apartment building. The fire prevented the client from safely reaching the front door, and she was forced to jump from a second story window to escape the fire, sustaining serious injuries. It was later discovered that the fire was started by a homeless person who had entered the building through an improperly secured back door. The building owners, managers, and maintenance employees had previously received numerous complaints from tenants that homeless people were gaining access to the building and causing dangerous conditions, includes prior fires. Peter Bowers and Alex Ginsburg filed the case, which, despite difficult liability issues, was settled for a substantial sum.

2015

Dog bite

The client adopted a dog from a local shelter for her and her two young children. The client was not informed that two days prior to the adoption, the dog had viciously attacked its previous owner’s dog, and had been
returned to the shelter. The owner had informed the shelter of the dog’s behavior, and notified them that the dog was not suitable for adoption. The client inquired about any potential past violent behavior upon her
adoption of the dog, but the shelter informed her that there was no past violence. Within days of the adoption, the client and her children were viciously attacked by the dog without warning or provocation. The attack
caused severe injuries to the client and her children. Peter Bowers and Alex Ginsburg sued the shelter for negligence, third party liability, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and punitive damages. Peter and Alex settled the case for a substantial sum.

In 2014, the clients were involved in a serious motor vehicle accident in Philadelphia. The clients were broadsided by the defendant, resulting in serious injuries to the clients. These injuries included serious and
permanent personal injuries to the client. Peter Bowers and Alex Ginsburg were able to reach a large settlement in mediation. This settlement was one of the top five reported settlements mediated in Pennsylvania in 2016.
